The founders of Kõu Mobility
The founders of Kõu Mobility got together at a Student Formula event in 2011, where, as a team, they engineered and developed electric race cars.
2014 / Comodule
In 2014 they understood that building cars is still a huge contributor of environmental pollution and decided to focus on micromobility by founding Comodule, a world-leading company that connects electric vehicles to the internet. Many of the electric bicycles or shared electric scooters you see on your street are very likely to run on Comodule’s tech for their connectivity and app.
2019 / Kõu factory
The e-scooter industry started booming in 2019, and thus the demand for IoT solutions increased. The need for in-house production lead to building the CoFactory in the heart of Tallinn, Estonia.
2020 / Tuul
The engineers realised that the way how scooters were built was still horrible for the environment, despite the seemingly carbon-neutral way of riding. They decided to start developing their own e-scooter and to test it in heavy daily usage to show the world that e-scooters could be designed and manufactured in a truly eco-friendly way. Tuul, a shared scooter fleet company was founded in 2020, which despite the competition instantly won the hearts of Estonians.
2021 / Äike
After gathering valuable feedback from the customers, the team developed the scooter further to start selling it to end consumers. In 2021 Äike, a global electric scooter company was launched. Äike now sells e-scooters and accessories to EU and UK markets in both D2C and B2B units.
2023 / Ampler
The Kõu family welcomes a long-time friend - Ampler, the Estonian e-bike company.
Ampler shares the vision and values of the group and both see it as a perfect opportunity to join forces to move towards ambitious targets and set the trends in the fast-growing micromobility industry, thus continue making emotive zero-emission commuting accessible for everyone.
